Simone lost her baby. Will she lose her life trying to find her?
Kathryn Croft's THE GIRL YOU LOST is a gripping psychological thriller about a mother in search of a teenage girl, whom she believes to be her daughter. Simone and Matt's six-months-old baby girl, Helena, was taken by someone and is never found. After eighteen years, a teenage girl appears in front of Simone, and claims to be Helena; with no solid evidence to prove, but a blue velvety rabbit, similar to the one Helena owned the day she was taken. But then she disappears again...

The feelings this story evoked in me, is inexplicable. I was unable to recollect the last time I enjoyed a book like this. Finished it in just hours, and was desperately searching for more books by Kathryn Croft. Literally glued to the book and turning the pages hastily with an urge to find out the answers, while dreading the end.

The writing is simple, lucid, and easy to get into, yet able to build up the anticipation and fear inside the reader's mind. I'm sure it's Kathryn's writing what helped me to enjoy the book to the fullest.

Initially, the storyline sounded pretty familiar to me. A long lost child returns to her parent's life and alters their life unexpectedly or at least that's how I imagined it to be. I was not at all prepared for what came next, so it really took me by surprise to see where the story was actually leading to. What started as a disappearance of a teenage girl turned into multiple homicide cases, and gradually links with more shocking revelations. The inclusion of letters from the killer was brilliant. I have not read a thriller before with more than one killer (yeah, right! there was more than one killer), so I was completely absorbed by the story.

You will meet quite a number of women in this book, each of them has a tale of their own, and together those interspersed stories weaves the whole picture. Among them, Simone Porter's role was my favorite. The author has fairly explained her sheer audacity and willingness to even sacrifice her life for the baby, and it made the story more interesting. The ending was unpredictable and poignant. It tells the reader to expect the unexpected and not to blindly believe in what you see or hear.

I reckon THE GIRL YOU LOST is a book, that should be read by all thriller/mystery fans. It's an engrossing psychological thriller, that will keep the readers on the edge of the seat throughout the story.

Have you read any books by Kathryn Croft? Do you have any thriller story suggestions? I would love to hear it...

Happy Reading!
